Tsubaki Oil is made from the seeds of a particular strain of camellia that grows in Japan, the camellia japonica. Tsubaki (?) has been used for centuries in Asia to nourish the skin and hair - it's properties are known to penetrate deeply and quickly without leaving an oily residue, making tsubaki oil a perfect selection for conditioning natural fibre ropes. In Japan tsubaki was a favoured oil for use in preserving wooden tools and other perishable instruments, meaning tsubaki oil will give you one of the most authentic traditional experiences, especially if you pair this with our asanawa rope range. Made from 100% camellia japonica (Japanese Camellia) this oil has a light golden colour and is almost odourless. Our tsubaki oil is cold pressed and 50ml is sufficient to condition up to 100-120 metres of rope. How to Apply Tsubaki OilTo use, place a few drops of pure tsubaki oil in your palm, or on a leather cloth, and lightly run your ropes threw. You should use the oil sparingly – it will spread further than expected – oily ropes are never appealing. Tsubaki Oil Hints:Tsubaki is rich in vitamins, containing A, B, C, and E, it is also a natural source of polyphenol and antioxidants that are promoted as safeguarding your skin from the damaging UV rays. Camellia oil is known to be an effective multi-purpose moisturiser, so your rope bunny will appreciate this selection. |
**LIMITED RUN** (Once Sold there is no more stock) Our Furoshiki are cut from 100% cotton cloth made in Japan, then finished with overlocked edges to prevent frying and ensure your purchase lasts. 55cm x 55cm square (21.5" x 21.5"), the material is a decent medium size, sufficient to hold most rope sets. We have 3 different patterns to choose from, and 6 different colours, but this is a limited run. We are currently unable to secure more of this material, once these are sold out they will not be restocked.
Why Use Furoshiki

Multifilament polypropylene or MFP is a recent arrival on the bondage scene. Polypropylene ropes were previously dismissed for their hard and stiff plastic characteristics. However, MFP has become popular because the advance multifilament manufacturing has produced a rope that is very soft and extremely flexible. MFP now rivals nylon in popularity within western bondage circles and being twisted this rope still leaves beautiful patterns on the skin. Polypropylene also repels moisture making the material a perfect choice for kinbaku riggers who like to play whilst their bottom’s are tied. Multifilament polypropylene can be a little slippery with some types of knots, but with care it can be used for all types of bondage, including suspension. Be aware though, that as a synthetic rope MFP shares the low heating point, where even small amounts of friction risk causing rope burn. Whilst polypropylene rope has a lower breaking point than nylon, it also exhibits lower stretch, making it a good choice of rope for beginners and any experts alike. |
Made from worsted polyester, this rope has been especially dyed and woven to resemble natural hemp. Whilst much softer and more pleasant on the skin than course natural fibres, this twisted synthetic hemp rope is stronger than it’s pure hemp counterpart, and also has lower stretch characteristics making it a safer and more secure option for suspension. Extremely abrasion resistant, 100% polyester rope is extremely easy to handle and typically warmer to touch than other synthetic ropes. The worsting process produces a smooth yarn where the fibres lie parallel. Normally polyester ropes have the major advantage over other synthetic ropes due to the ability to retain flexibility over time, and worsted yarn polyester only enhances these characteristics. |
Our newly revised Asanawa range still consists of 100% pure jute rope, we’ve just adopted an type of construction that matches the style of rope being used in Japan by using a single strand and slightly thinner yarn. To the best of our knowledge this asanawa still offers a higher thread count than any other jute ropes being offered by alternative suppliers. Warning: most natural fibre ropes are not rated against loading strength and we always advise against making any assumptions about the breaking point of natural fibre ropes. You should always avoid putting anyone at risk and regularly check your ropes for wear. |
We have a new improved Asanawa on offer for 2015! Warning: most natural fibre ropes are not rated against loading strength and we always advise against making any assumptions about the breaking point of natural fibre ropes. You should always avoid putting anyone at risk and regularly check your ropes for wear. |
Tossa is a particular stain of Jute the Corchorus olitorius. The 100% natural fibres are two or three shades darker than those used in the asanawa range. Made from pure jute, this rope is extremely supple in its raw state, tossa is also stronger and due to the extremely high quality manufacturing there is no need to put this jute rope through any conditioning. We’ve selected this delightful rope specifically because we wanted a prime choice for experienced riggers with high expectations. Due to the darker shade this rope is exceptionally visually appealing on lighter skin tones, and it is immediately identifiable as a premium organic choice, one that provides the bottom an unmistakable experience through both smell and texture of natural jute rope. Ideal for all three bondage disciplines, this twisted jute rope is constructed in the traditional 3 plait twist. Whether your identify with kinbaku, shibari or hojojutsu once this rope is part of your rigging arsenal you will be a true advocate for jute rope. Warning: most natural fibre ropes are not rated against loading strength and we always advise against making any assumptions about the breaking point of natural fibre ropes. You should always avoid putting anyone at risk and regularly check your ropes for wear. |
At Jade Rope we wanted to offer the Hojojutsu (Hojo Jujitsu) circuit a natural fibre rope that was both economically sensible and competitive in terms of strength and durability. This 100% natural hemp rope has been braided to eliminate all possibility of ‘opening up’ when contorted. Providing superior strength, braided hemp rope benefits from reduced stretch characteristics, making this one of the most ‘secure’ natural rope options if you are looking to ensure that anyone with a talent towards escape will remain tied. Whilst this construction is not a replica of traditional asa-nawa employed in hojojutsu, we know that martial arts is ever evolving and at Jade Rope we’re confident that if the Japanese samurai had access to this hemp rope, they wouldn’t have hesitated one second in making it their preferred cord. Using an 8 plait construction, as apposed to the 16 plait solid braid this rope option retains it’s flexibility and also holds knots exceptionally well. Warning: most natural fibre ropes are not rated against loading strength and we always advise against making any assumptions about the breaking point of natural fibre ropes. You should always avoid putting anyone at risk and regularly check your ropes for wear. |
Woven from natural hemp fibres grown in Holland, this is the best quality pure hemp rope we’ve been able to locate. Whilst the finish is raw and the rope is unconditioned it is soft enough and sufficiently free of any course fibres to use straight away. 100% hemp, we’ve purposefully left this rope as it is to allow riggers a blank canvas to personalise their purchase exactly how they wish to. For shibari enthusiasts seeking a soft gentle feel for their bottoms we would recommend some dry finishing techniques, but this is not necessary as the rope will mature nicely with no more than a little use. We selected this hemp rope for many reasons, but one point we really wish to highlight is the load testing that has been carried out by the manufacturer. Our hemp rope complies with the DIN 83325 standards and we can confidently boost an extremely high breaking strength, giving riggers peace of mind in suspension scenes. Knowing the ‘loading’ is a rarity for natural fibre ropes. This 6mm option is constructed in the traditional 3 strand twist, to honour and replicate the twisted asa-nawa used by the Japanese when hojojutsu was at it’s peak. This natural hemp rope is the first ‘and sometimes only’ choice for serious shibari and kinbaku enthusiasts. |
